The Greatest Horseback Riding in the Midwest. A huge claim to make, but easily backed up with fact. The Kickapoo Valley Ranch is bordered on three sides by the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, 8500 acres of unglaciated beauty in Wisconsin's Vernon County that is not found anywhere else in the continental United States. The Reserve is then bordered on the north by Wildcat Mountain State Park, covering another 3500 acres. The flora and fauna of the Reserve helped to save the area from being buried under one of the nations' largest man-made lakes in the early 1970's. That same flora and fauna offers the guided horseback trail rides at the Kickapoo Valley Ranch a trail ride that cannot be found anywhere. Riders have the opportunity to experience well over 60 miles of groomed trails through deep wooded areas, to the tops of towering mountain peaks, and across open plains of prairie grass. It is truly the most diverse trail riding experience in the Midwest. The Kickapoo Valley Ranch offers five guided horseback trail rides each and every day of the week and on weekends, year round. Short, one-hour rides are standard with the opportunity to customize two, three, four-hour rides or more based on the guests' experience and desires. They also offer sunset rides on Friday and Saturday evenings with a post-ride campfire. They expect to add sunrise breakfast rides to their offerings by mid-summer. All rides are weather permitting. The Kickapoo Valley Ranch also offers the General Store to riders and non-riders alike. The General Store boasts an incredible selection of Western, Southwestern, rustic and country collectibles; an ever-changing array of unique accents for home and garden from all over the globe. The General Store displays a wide selection of Kickapoo Valley Ranch logo merchandise including embroidered denim and twill shirts, silk screened t-shirts in several different motifs, embroidered caps, as well as coffee mugs, key chains, and refrigerator magnets. In keeping with the General Store theme, old-fashioned candy will be available from covered, glass jars and fresh baked goods are expected on a daily basis. Additional services slated for the upcoming months are equine boarding in well-kept, individual box stalls with daily turn-outs standard; guest accommodations in their converted Granary Guest Cottage and newly built guest cabins with continental breakfast negotiable; hay rides, carriage rides, pony rides and special event planning. Those with their own horses are expected to be welcomed once the accommodations are established. The Kickapoo Valley Ranch is open year round, seven days a week from 9am to 5pm with specialty rides running beyond normal business hours.
